Additionally, since it's difficult to visualize how someone with a lot of reputation will look without seeing it, I've artificially raised the reputation on my account as an example.

Hello Jeremy,

Thanks for enabling the reputation option for some of us in order to try it out. I have one question though:
When clicking on the Add reputation icon I get presented the options:

Code:
I Approve
I disapprove
and a field to type some reason why I choose whatever I choose. How is the counter of that poster being increased/decreased? Always by one? Will this stay the same or will there be different levels of reputation in the future taking into account things as discussed before like technicality, best post, politeness, etc?

Kind regards,

Eric

Imagine Pat, Eric, and Robby, having a problem with Slackware and all saying: "We'd better ask Brian to sort this out."

The amount of reputation you give is variable, and is based on a variety of factors including length of membership, number of posts, current reputation, etc. We have no plans to break out additional items such as technicality or politeness at this time, but I'd suspect that we'll alter the system as we better understand how it's being used and how it can be improved.

A note: for the few usegroups who will be able to leave negative rep, a comment will be required. Comments for positive rep are optional for all usergroups.

Also, now that this feature is being rolled out and used, it should be noted that you can see who left reputation for you in your UserpCP. A "Latest Reputation Received" notification area will appear below User Notifications and any subscribed threads/forums you have.

Sounds great. I just 'approved' your latest post and noticed that it awarded you 4 points (if I was the only one in this short period trying out). So if I understand it correctly if a very knowledgeable user who's also a long time member awards reputation it will be higher then coming from me for example?

Also, I like the message when giving reputation.

Let's take my vote back and see what I get now.

Kind regards,

Eric

DARN: forgot about the spreading option, great form of avoiding misuse, Jeremy

The tooltip for the reputation icon has been corrected to reflect the actual functionality when clicked for your own posts.

jeremy, some of your blocks are dark and some are bright. It that like a progress bar? Or is just more blocks for more rep?

At this time each dark green block represents up to 100 rep, while each bright green block represents 200.

And if I have to see whether the post above me has got some reputation point, will it be visible on that post itself or I'll have to check the user's profile/statistics tab on each and every post ?

At this time the postbit will not contain that information, but I'm considering it as a future enhancement.

Well thanks for considering.

It can be displayed on the left corner on the right side of the penguin like
10

And if a proper number is shown there instead of a "tooltip" or some another symbol, it will be very easily readable !
