As it's visible that the person who was advocating finalizing-before-doing has himself edited his post, so I think the option to undo "helpful" can be there. Even if a person is thoughtfully clicking on "helpful" he may still later change his decision the way I did:

X11 mouse pointer acceleration profiles can be a little unpredictable at times and can convert a very small physical movement into quite a big jump. I was going for "LQ Spy" and hit "Mark Forums Read" the other day. Now, THAT was annoying. Needless to say, I'm never using "LQ Spy" again.


P.S.
I think a lot of people are still using the helpful button as a "thankyou" or "yes I agree" button, so it's all a bit arbitrary anyway.

This is something I've been thinking about and something I'd like to address in a future update, although I'm not actually sure how. I'm certainly ope to feedback on the topic.
