wlan not working? try upgrading router firmware!

I have been trying everything in all the threads I could find to get my NETGEAR MA101 USB access point to work with SUSE 9.0, but couldn't get it working correctly. (After lots of trying, I managed to get an internet connection by entering configuration commands manually with iwconfig, but I never got it to work automatically).

It finally occurred to me to upgrade my NETGEAR MR814 router's firmware to the latest version. I then deleted the ifcfg-wlan0 file that I had created previously and redid the wlan configuration using YAST, rebooted my PC and now I have it all working.

I don't know if this will solve everyone's problems, but before you lose too much time trying everything else (I'm ashamed to say how long I have been working on this) I suggest you get the latest updates for your hardware (even if you just took it out of the box it may be out of date)!

Note: I also updated my DSL modem's software, but I don't think it was relevant to this problem.

Good advice to be sure. I just upgraded the firmware on my Netgear WG614v4 router and most of my connection problems went up in smoke.
