WiFi network insallation problems-Newbie

I have go the Kcorp Lifestyle Wireless Router and the usb dongle that came with it. The product code for the USB dongle is KLS-685. I have Red Hat 9 installed (from the 3 CD's included in the Red Hat Linux 9 Bible published by Wiley).

When I try to set up a Wireless Network using the KDE desktop (using the Network configuration tool but it does not find my USB dongle. It only asks to configure a wireless card.

I was wondering if this would be fixed by an update to Fedora (if that's possible from Red Hat??) or how to set up a wireless network using a USB device. (I would also greatly appreciate any links to articles on use of the terminal and clustering...if you happen to have any hanging around.

Thank you all

Sonni

PS, the screen-savers on Red Hat rule!

I've never used a USB dongle for wireless, but I know many wireless devices are not supported very well for linux yet. However, you can use something like ndiswrapper to help load a windows driver for the device to use in linux. For a built in wireless card, this works with great success (as I'm using one right now) and probably would do the same for a usb device for wireless. Here are the instructions for ndiswrapper http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...p/Installation

and go to this page: http://www.kcorplifestyle.com/produc...85/KLS-685.htm and download the driver under "driver and untilities" it will be a .zip file that should contain the .inf and .sys files you need for ndiswrapper

Hope this helps you!
