Newbiw Question:Read Only During dpkg

Hi All, I am a newbie and just started off with Knoppix(sory, it seems like there isnt a Knoppix section here). I have a PCI LT Winmodem and i want to use it for my dial up. I picked up an .deb driver from the linmodem.org and when i was in root, i typed dpkg -i ltmodem.....deb, but it couldnt install the driver and it says "file is read only". Can anyone be kind enough to tell me what i need to do next? lspci has listed the Lucent winmodem alright. Thanks!

Are you root when you try to dpkg -i nameof.deb? Have you already done the knx-hdinstall?

And you understand why it wouldn't work, right? You'll have to install Knoppix to your disk first. Then it WILL work. Let us know if you need further assistance. And good luck!
