I've just installed Mandrake 10.1 Official, and am trying to get my wireless card running. I have bought and installed a D-Link DWL-G520+ (UK, PCI).
I followed the steps here: madwifiwiki [dot] thewebhost [dot] de [slash] wiki [slash] Mandrake100AndDLinkDWLG520 (url filter)
And I got some help from the nice people in #mandrake (Freenode) to fix the errors in make-installing MadWifi. The ifcfg-ath0 file is as the wiki page lists, the aliases are in properly, I've run depmod and so on. But I still can't get a connection.
In the MDL Control Center, I choose New Connection, Wireless connection. I have to choose a driver, and so pick either acx100_pci or ath_pci. In either case, I have to enter specific options or autoprobe. The specific options listed are debug, use_eth_name and firmware_dir.
I am not bothered how I get it working, but I need to get wifi working.
My system specs are as follows: AMD Sempron 1.5 GHz, 256 Mb DDR, Asus mainboard, 160 Gb IDE, Sony DVD/CD-RW and all the usual bits.
This is from my session:
[root@gould tom]# ifconfig ath0 up
ath0: unknown interface: No such device
I've checked the card, which is plugged in properly, and I've done everything that the wiki and the MadWifi README.
I've put the results of lspci, lspci -n and dmesg at tom [dot] bbcity [dot] co [dot] uk [slash] results [dot] txt (damn url filter!)
Here's how I got it working on mine. It may be slightly different than what you need to do, 'cause I'm using Fedora. Also, I think you've already done most of this, but here it is anyway.
After installing the driver, I add alias ath0 ath_pci to /etc/modprobe.conf
Then I create a file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ath0, which says
Then in a terminal I type /sbin/ifconfig ath0 up. If that doesn't bring it up, type /sbin/iwlist ath0 scanning, and make sure it can see your wireless network.
I managed to get through the instructions from the house of craig and got a connection to my AP.
I'm using a dlink dwl-g520+ with a dlink dwl-2100 AP.
My problem is that the link seems to be stable, but the thoroughput of the card is terrible! no matter what rate I set, a download may start at 30-40 k and then drop down to 4-3k or even lower, stalling every now and then.
I'm so cose to ditching winblows, please can someone assist in just getting me over the line?
