Angry DWL-G520, Madwifi problems blahh!

I'm a newbie trying to make the jump, but have encountered difficulty getting my card to work. Ubuntu did not detect my card on installation, even though I checked and the chipset is Atheros based.

Gnome does not give any card option on it GUI network configuration tool.

When I type iwconfig it prints

lo no wireless extensions

sit0 no wireless extensions

when I type dmesg I think the problem lies here it prints (on two of the lines)

ath_pci: no version for "ieee80211_ioch_siwrite":found kernal tainted
ath_pci: 0.9.4.0 (experimental)
ath%d: unable to attach hardware HAL status 13

I also tried ndiswrapper with the driver from the cd. It recognized wlan0 but said
Net3ab.sys is serialized---this might not work

Well it did'nt.

Is it time to just blow this sucker to smithers?

Any help appreciated.

Interesting note, the gui device manager recognizes it as an atheros chipset wireless device...???....???,,

this are the steps i take to bring my wireless interface up:
1 - /sbin/modprobe ath_pci
2 - /usr/sbin/iwconfig ath0 key your_key_goes_here
3 - /usr/sbin/iwconfig essid "your_SSID_goes_here"
4 - dhclient ath0

hope it helps. you need to have madwifi for this card... if it works ask me for the automated script. Good luck.

thanks

Thanks for the info, after looking into it some more it looks like I have no option but wait some time till Madwifi is updated because the "HAL level 13" error basically means the drivers don't support the hardware.

After looking at the card it looks like a G520 revB2. Others, I think, that got the card working were using older revisions. If anybody knows different please post, otherwise Linux will have to wait till I can buy a different card, or a new set of drivers are released.

Tchau Ubuntu

Try this:
http://madwifiwiki.thewebhost.de/wiki/DLinkDWLG520

And if not helps try this:http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...fi&btnG=Search

I believe it works on the first link someone reports having it work. What kernel version are you using? Use an updated version for this kind of hardware... kernel 2.6 has it built in already.

good luck.
