Getting DWL-G520 configured. madwifi installed

Hi,

First of all I want to mention I have already created a thread about my previous networking card and you may find out more information of my situation by reading this thread:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=380960

I ended up getting the DWL-G520 D-Link revision 11 B3. I did research here and there before I bought it since I had such a crappy experience with my Linksys one. I had removed the card from the computer and put the new one in. I knew that I would have to use madwifi according to research. I attempted to emerge madwifi and it was masked. I didnt know how to unmask at the time so I ended up getting it from the official site. It was the latest package. It then all installed and I had modprobed the device and it was setup that way. Now... I have interface wifi0. I see on the howtos that the wifi0 is the latest interface with driver or something. The older one used ath0 or something. Now, I havent really looked all that much in /etc because of time issues. If I issued commands ifconfig wifi0 or iwconfig wifi0 I get no wireless extensions. Now I suppose that indicates that I should go and configure the rest? Now keep in mind that I do not have any encryption on the routers I have at home. I had gotten rid of the wpa_supplicant package. The package in the portage tree remains masked. I dont think having it masked would even make a difference.

just to make everyone aware. I DO NOT WISH TO USE NDISWRAPPER if I can use MADWIFI. I must also mention I have been searching keywords "DWL G520" no quotes in the forums via linuxquestions.org. I havent tried _all_ of the suggestions other people have mentioned.

I must run off now. If anyone needs me to elaborate more please do tell me

Thanks in advance,

--George
