X server not starting and continuously restarts

Hello Friends,

In normal boot sequence of red hat 9.0 first all the services are started. Thereafter a login prompt like

localhost login:

is displayed for 2-3 seconds. And then the graphical login prompt is displayed.

But in my problem everything works fine till all the services are started. Then a prompt
localhost login:
is displayed and then linux tries to go to graphical login.
But it cant go to graphical login instead it again goes to the "localhost login:" prompt and again tries to go to graphical prompt. This loop continues and the graphical prompt dosent get displayed.

I have been using internet for few days on it. But i dont think that is the problem.
If any body have any suggestion or solution please help me.
