wvdial no carrier

Horrible thing happened today. Wvdial let me down for the first time since I started using it. I am getting a 'no carrier' error. I had this when I first installed wvdial and added 'carrier check = no' to the conf and had no problems since. I am on the road at the moment and in a motel, going through there pabx or whatever it is. So, I have to add 0, to the start of the phone number to get an outside line. Dials ok and even gets response from isp (can here it) but disconnects with no carrier. I havent had this problem with my isp before and have even stayed in another motel in this town, also through a pabx and no problems. ( so counts out my isp as the problem ) Tried adding stupid mode= yes just out of desperation but no go. Even stupid mode = 1, still nothing Didnt think it would help, but you have to try. Read about bad lines causing the sine or something getting screwed and therefore the error, but the worst thing of all is that I can connect with windows. (dual boot) First time i've surfed with it in ages, and not happy about having too. I run sarge and think wvdial is 1.54 version, which is pretty much the newest version. Havent done a dist-upgrade for a while, so will try to get to an internet cafe and update everything (though I doubt it will help) So, any and all suggestions welcome. This isnt life or death, but one of those annoying things that you need to know why its letting you down, so am pretty keen to fix it. Gonna be here for the week, so would be nice not to have to use windows for a whole week.
