wvdial help

Hey, I've just reinstalled red hat linux 7.2 using the server installation. I am trying to use wvdial to set up an iunternet connection with my external modem. I ran wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf and edited wvdial.conf with emacs with my connection infromation. When i run wvdial it dials, and enters my username/password but then it just can't start a ppp connection. It just stalls at "Starting pppd at *current date.*" I'dd really appriciate any help. Try using kppp on KDE, and let it try detect your external modem etc. and just fill in your necessary details etc. phone number, username...

I didnt install a GUI. I wanted to learn how to use the command prompt.
