I would like to use something like Sketchup (Twindle/Google). I like Sweethome3d and also some of those programs with “CAD” in their names, others with “3D” here and there... Now hit me, if you want, but scriptable or not, they are not the same.

I need rafters, beams and all kinds of battens, different sizes and wood-textures... Seeing shadows as they change between the 1st of December up to the ides of mars, or the like, can be useful... but now I exaggerate. Have you tried creating slanted alcoves in Sweethome3D? I have and succeeded. So what? These details suck my life out. That is the problem.

Don't call it Sketchup, if you want, but I miss it.

Just a note that a search for irfanview across all supported Ubuntu versions through https://packages.ubuntu.com/ turns up nothing.

bgstack15 - I have a habit of occasionally going into the ubuntu software store, to see whether there are any new programs. It is in the main repository.

Having said that, I have just noticed the other comment, and did the same search. I will check again tonight

I would like to see band in a box ported. This app makes it easy to create practice backing tracks.

Thank you for sharing the results. I realized a day or two after the initial discussion that it is probably in one of those new-fangled YAPM (yet another package manager) package formats.

Actually, forget that I brought it up. It is a snap, which installs Wine and the windows version of Irfanview

Is this the program that you want?
https://www.sector7.com/vxtools/editors/vxtpu.html

If so, it is already available as a Linux program.

Include microscope programs that work in MS Windows, but won't work in Linux Mint.

Good call, Roots Magic is one of the few programs where I run it in a Windows virtual machine using VirtualBox. I didn't know that Family Search had a Windows program - I use the Family Search website.

My cell phone doesn't work in Linux Mint 18.2, My microscope does not work in Linux Mint 18.2, just about everything that was designed for MS Windows does not work in Linux Mint.
So my suggestion would be that Linux Mint comes out with a more friendly plug and play OS that will work in devices designed for MS Windows, otherwise a Linux user is hunting constantly for software fixes that will allow these devices to work only partly in Linux, and not very well I might add.
