I have tried to install fedora 6 on my system .Whenever I try it, my monitor gets switched off.
My monitor only supports till 800x600
Could any one help me in finding how can i install Fedora 6 or how can i decrease the resolution of installer Fedora 6 such that I can easily install through GUI interface.I am a starter to Linux so I am not much aware of installation through text mode.

I cannot recall the specifics of Fedora Core 6 but you can install in a console mode.

I didn't have any trouble getting to the initial screen but instead of pressing enter to boot you need to press a button (usually F2) to see boot options. That should bring up a menu and on there will be an option to pass so that the installation is all in just text. This should get you through the install process.

Anyone who is more familiar with Fedora Core chime in with some specifics

I have successfully installed Fedora 6 through text mode.But unable to shift to gnome desktop interface.
When i check the anaconda cfg file it shows the graphics drivers etc everything installed properply.

Please help me to shifting to GUI interface.

What happens when you try to boot into X?

Is it trying to force your monitor to display a res higher than it can support? If so try the following...

1) Press Control-Alt-Dash (-) . This used to drop the screen resolution in X down. You might need to press it a few times to drop the resolution down enough. Leave 4 -5 seconds after each push to allow the system time to resize. IF you can then get in to some form of X you can use the System-Preferences-Screen resolution tool to set it more correctly.

2) If the above fails, edit you /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Delete all references to resolutions your screen cannot handle and restart X

If you are unfamiliar with the xorg.conf file there is a script that will walk you through step by step. Again it has been a while since I've used Fedora core but I believe in the directory

"/etc/X11/"
it is either called "xorgconfig: or "xorgsetup"

This is a text based script that will walk you through each step of the setup and espically for the beginner is easier that searching through the xorg.conf file in my humble opinion.
