Fedora install will not drive monitor??

Hi,

I'm brand new to these forums and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem that I am having when I try to install Fedora Core 3. I boot from the first cd and get to the point when it starts to boot into X during install and my monitor goes dead. I tried setting the resolution and it still wouldn't work. This didn't happen to me when I installed WBEL using the same monitor. Is there something that I'm missing here?

The monitor is an LCD.

Thanks for any help that you can give me!

Does your BIOS support a "standard" VT mode (480 X 600, 8 colors)? If it does, try that setting.

Oh, how long did you stare at the black screen? Sometimes the screen goes blank whilst the "new hardware" search is running, because the system is trying different drivers to find one that will work with your video card.

One other thing: it's usually the video controller hardware that's the problem, not the monitor itself. Could you tell if your hardware was correctly identified? Also, check the HCL in these forums for your system (motherboard, video card). You may find a clue there, especially if there is a review.

By the way, providing as much specific information as you can when asking a question often improves your audience's ability to help you. I'm giving you only vague suggestions (not, you understand, that I could do any better) because your question had been up for a couple of hours with no response.
