A) Do you have the ports open that you need?
B) Do you have connectivity
C) Did you run "smbpasswd" to add the user & set the password?
D) What does "smbclient -L <windows_host>" return.

Change your hostname. It shouldn't be "localhost". When another computer tries to connect, it will only reach itself.
You need to log out and in again after changing the hostname if you use KDE.
