Samba auth problem

Hello all

Im currently experiencing problems with checktin user/pass against an ADS...

smbclient -U'user' -L DOMAIN

have no problems at all and works perfectly... I think
Same goes for

smbclient -U'user' -L LOCALHOST

however if i try from a normal windows XP client which already have been authenticated as a proper user for this resource I can read the following in the samba log...

[2005/09/19 11:22:11, 0] auth/auth_util.c:make_server_info_info3(1195)
make_server_info_info3: pdb_init_sam failed!
[2005/09/19 11:22:11, 5] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(271)
check_ntlm_password: winbind authentication for user [edb] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
[2005/09/19 11:22:11, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(312)
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [edb] -> [edb] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER

If anyone got any suggestions or clues plz post witg replys or questions

With windows XP, the computer name also needs to be added to Samba.

Try:

smbpasswd -a -m [computer name]

Then set up XP to join the domain. You will need to join the domain as root when prompted.

If successful, you should get a message that says something like "Welcome to [domain name]".

As an added feature, I've put the line below in my smb.conf file to automatically add the machine name whenever I try to join the domain from an XP machine. It will put the machines in a group called Machines. Hope this helps!

add machine script = /usr/sbin/adduser -n -g machines -c Machine -d /dev/null -s /bin/false %u
