ntpd and frequency

Hi.

I am wondering how we can set/change the frequency by which the ntpd daemon synchronizes with the external ntp server? I quickly googled around but could not find the information. I would imagine it is done via ntp.conf, but that's as far as my poor imagination goes.

Any help would be appreciated.

I run the daemon as a cron job on my machines.

You mean the "ntpdate" command? I guess I could also run it as a cron job. I wonder if that's the only way to achieve my objective.

Nope. I just execute /usr/sbin/ntpd -q as a cron job on each machine. I guess I should mention that only one machine is connected to the internet. That machine becomes the NTP server for the other five machines.

Thanks, I did not realize that "ntpd -q" would be identical to "ntpdate." I will certainly keep that in mind.
