mandrake 8.2 on a laptop

Has anyone been able to put Mandrake 8.2 or 8.1 on a laptop? I can't seem to boot from the cd and the boot floppy doesn't work. both tell me that the boot failed. I've gottne Red Hat 7.2 on but that was by using the autoboot.bat file in dosutils. does mandrake have something similar??

I was able to install Mandrake on to my Compaq laptop. It actually went by pretty smoothly. Maybe you need to get your BIOS to look for the cd-rom first. Or maybe there is something wrong with the cd itself. Did you download the cd? Did you check the MD5sum's?

not quite sure what MD5 sum's are?
It doesn't seem to matter what i boot from or the boot order the boot still fails. i downloaded the 8.2 iso and burned that and that didn't work and neither did the 8.1 which i bought.

I have 8.1 on a gateway solo w/ no problem.....what kind of laptop? I have a toshiba one and I had problems booting 8.2 because of pcmcia conflicts at bootup. I had to load a earlier version of mandrake (ie. 7.2 or 8.0) If u have an earlier version try that if not hit me back and I'll send you mines

I'm trying to get it on an IBM thinkpad i series 1200. I've tried changing the boot order and booting from the cd but that doesn't work nor does creating a boot floppy. this is weird but now that i am thinking about it i've only been able to install from the dos prompt never from a boot image.
