Talking mandrake 8.0 on laptop


can anyone please tell me if it such a good idea for me to buy a compaq or a toshiba laptop and intall mandrake 8.0 on it.
by the way, I plan to by a laptop with DVD
the toshiba that I want to by is modem 4600
the compaq model is 1700

my best suggestion is to check the hardware.. then your gonna want to check the compatibility of it at mandrakes site.. xfree86's site ...and etc..
also check out www.linux-laptops.org and see if anyone already has gotten linux installed on that particular laptop and has good resources on how they did.
