Kylix needs Lyx OR Latex (If you load Lyx and do it right you will get Latex also) and Tetex to run right(Kylix and Lyx both should be runnable form KDE, and do similar things-- I actually like Lyx BETTER than Kylix, and my box has Lyx and not Kylix on it right now as I did not install Kylix.). To save some special formats Lyx and Tetex talk to ps2html and a few OTHER packages. If you forced the RPM install by using -F and did not give it those other things, that is probably why it is hanging.

If you have ever used the old Wordstar package, Lyx will respond to those keystrokes, most of them. Wordstar was based on Tetex and Latex aslo, and was front end for one of them for DOS and Unix. When my Lyx installed, it wanted BOTH. Kylix will have very similar needs for things to use (it is a shell for Latex and Tetex typesetting functions, like Lyx).

Kylix is KDEs version of Lyx, but Lyx fails less than Kylix right now for a lot of folks.

http://www.lyx.org/
and for RPMs,

http://www.pclinuxonline.com/ (TexStar's home site, a lot of his stuff for Mandrake 8.2 works with a lot of Redhat 7.2 and 7.3 boxes, and vice versa for some of them)

and

http://speakeasy.rpmfind.net/
(this site is in North America, on the East Coast, and is a smaller mirror than the following ones, so if you do not find what you need or it seems VERY slow then try the others)
http://rpmfind.net
(I do not know where EXACTLY this site is located now, I THINK it is the UK or Western Europe still)
http://fr2.rpmfind.net
http://fr.rpmfind.net
(The two above are in France, thus the FRance in the name.)
http://www.rpmfind.net
lead to a small set of server farms that have ooodles of RPMs whihc are searchable not only by software name but also by what distro even down to version of distro if you tell it that, and if you tell it i386 for architecture if you have RedHat you will not get a bunch of alpha stuff that does not work. DO not try to give it the full RPM name, you do not need it-- the searchers know how to find Lyx RPMs just from the word lyx or Lyx, for instance. Most recent stuff is at top of each list for each distro, if everytihng is working right. Link to left of each RPM is info about RPM link, link to right downloads.

I had this problem and then put the kylix/bin directory in both my PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, which seemed to fix it.

I've seen lots of posts about this on Borland's NGs. Make sure you are update date on all the packages. I think that solves the problem if it doesn't. The other thing that has proven to work is to grab the 2.4.19 kernel and compile it. It appears that RH added something to their kernel that breaks/hangs the open/save dialogs in Kylix 3.
