K3b (growisofs) OPC failed

I've seen several threads about similar problems, but I haven't seen any solutions. Let's start with the error:

Quote:
System

K3b Version: 0.12

KDE Version: 3.3.2
QT Version: 3.3.4
Kernel: 2.6.12.5

-----------------------
growisofs: 5.21

growisofs

:-[ PERFORM OPC failed with SK=4h/ASC=09h/ACQ=01h]: Input/output error

growisofs command:
-----------------------
/usr/bin/growisofs -Z /dev/hdd=/home/brian/.wine/drive_c/test.ISO -use-the-force-luke=notray -use-the-force-luke=tty -dvd-compat -speed=8
In particular:
:-[ PERFORM OPC failed with SK=4h/ASC=09h/ACQ=01h]: Input/output error

I am using a nutech ddw-082 8x dvd+/-r burner. When 4x dvds were the in thing it would burn them at 8x. Anyway, from what I have read, this is only an issue when burning dvd-rs and not dvd+rs because k3b does not use growisofs for dvd+rs. When I have the burn speed set to auto, ignore, or 8x I get this error. If I set it to 6x (or presumably, less) it burns flawlessly. As far as I'm aware, all of my mkisofs and growisofs are up-to-date. I am running on debian, currently kernel 2.6.12.5. Does anyone have any more information or any fixes for this issue? Obviously I can burn at 6x, but I don't like that solution. Thanks in advance.

Bump.

I still haven't found a good reason why it would not even make an attempt at 8x, but works fine at 6x. Heck, I'd even go for a fix without an explanation.
