Question How to start X mode (slackware9)


I am totally newbie with linux... I installed the slackware 9 ( I actually succeded....*proud* ) But now that i have installed the slackware 9.. i don't know wich command to type to get to the X mode ( i have set KDE to the default X something ) So what command do i need to type ? And i saw there was a X mode that looked like windows, Can i change to that mode later ? then, how ?


(speak friendly, i don't understand much of the "linux words")

startx

Check what runlevel your system starts in.

look in /etc/inittab

look for the line

id:x:initdefault:

If you want to boot Slackware into GUI mode :

Open console - su to root user - then

gedit /etc/inittab

look for the line:

id:3:initdefault:

change it to

id:4:initdefault:

ie change the 3 to a 4

save the file and reboot

(Slackware 9 uses 4 as its default GUI mode run level)

They all use diffrent run levels, You'd think there would be some standard by now.
