GoogleEarth dies while initializing, causes reboot

Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 on a desktop.
GoogleEarthLinux Version 4.3.7204.0836 (beta) installs without any
reported problems. However, when I start GoogleEarth, the splash screen
shows and the "initializing" icon is present on the task bar. After
a few seconds the screen goes blank and the PC reboots. What checks
should I make, or environment variables that should be inspected?
Thanks, Dave

What video card do you have?

What video driver are you using?

If I recall, Google Earth needs OpenGL to run properly.
