Iternet Connection (Comcast) dies until reboot

On a new installation of PCLinuxOS I have experienced Comcast broadband dropouts that cannot be fixed without a reboot.

*Edit*

I used the network monitor and have learned that the connection dies after downloading 1.6 gigabytes of data. I have downloaded newsgroup headers, internet media files, etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Do you have some sort of firewall running? Sounds like you're dealing with a quota issue through iptables...
Shut down any firewall at the time your internet stops and see if that allows access again. If so, reconfigure your firewall without the quota.

Dear Vincent,

Thanks for the pointer. I will do as you say.

FYI: I too thought it was firewall related. I uninstalled the Shoreline Firewall (which was the default) and installed Firestarter (which I am familiar with).

I am not familiar with the quota issue. I will check the firewall app, see what's going on there.

Robert

Well, it's possible that, for some strange reason, you are being limited by your own firewall to a specific amount of bandwidth. That's how it seems. To find out, once you have this problem again, either open your firewall completely or manually flush your iptables and set the policy for INPUT/OUTPUT to allow. If the problem is gone, you have your answer.
I think whatever you're problem is, it's very simple since this is not tied into some corporate network.
