gedit preferences menu does not work.

I am having a problem with the gedit preferences menu. It doesn't permit changes. I have tried to make changes from the command line as well using gsettings. That command exits normally indicating that the target preference file was changed, but those changes don't show up in the gedit preferences menu.

The machine is AMD64 with 400GB and a Radeon video card. Running Debian 8.4, with gedit 3.14.0.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Ray
