Where did you get this information? Lindows/Linspire sponsor Gaim. But neither the Linspire nor the Gaim sites have anything at all about this. Is this one of those "FOAF Stories"*?
Cool - I just had a read and it appears that (according to that article) you are correct. I could not, however, find any other articles anywhere on the net to verify this by.
Interestingly, I didn't see anywhere where the article claims to have got the information. Linspire uses SIP for VOIP - maybe they have a way to make Gaim and SIP work together?
Until other articles come along (specifically from Gaim and Linspire) I would treat this as one of the usual Internet wish lists.
http://babelfish.altavista.com/ translates the page as: Lindows, Inc. voIP functionality (bels by means of Internet) to the Instant Messenger Gaim has added. Because of this can users during the chatten with friends ring, Sip-telefoon (VoIP) to ring or telephone conversations to fixed toestellen to conduct. Remarkably to the solution is that ringing is possible also by firewalls, something what at VoIP long not always automatically speaking is. He who therefore a microphone on pocket has can ring everywhere in the world free or advantageously. Because Gaim under Gpl-licentie are it the intention that the software eventually standard for Gaim becomes.
Five for free conversations of 1 minute. Ringing Sip-nummer to Sip-nummer are always free, but must be still paid for fixed network. They who to fixed toestellen can Sip-minutes want ring to buy or use the option to hold 5 conversations of 1 minute to a number of countries. "De rag top go eventually during travelling your tel. worden." Michael Robertson to NedLinux.nl tell during a voIP conversation, "Vorige weak I was in milaan and I have been possible use with WIFI network the hotel and can ring my woman. All free dus."
English or American phone number. Beside the phone number for Sip-aansluiting (that can be also chosen), are possible for the outside world American or English phone number is obtained. Good functionality. The previous week I have tested the service and sound quality is remarkable well for a pc. application. Thereby must be said, however, that ringing to a fixed line nevertheless a delay with itself brings with. All in all the additive of Gaim is interesting and makes living leuker a lot.
The translation is not great, but the gist is there. The software is free, dialling to a fixed line is not and you are given 5 free 1 minute conversations. I am surprised that this information is not all over the Linspire home page.
It is v. 0.79, the current gaim version is 0.80, it almoast new
I am compiling it right now, and will test it with my sip account, if it works it would be really nice to see sip support soon in gaim
