I just switched to fluxbox a few days ago and I love the sleek uncluttered view. I'm thirsty for more style and I want transparent menus.
I've tried setting the menuAlpha to 160 in the .fluxbox/init file as well as the style file. Neither of those worked. I'm using fbsetbg and I've got feh installed as well.
I've tried adding wpsetters=feh to the fbsetbg line and it did'nt work either.
I've tried it with both the development and stable versions of fluxbox.
Googled it a few times with no info of use.
I've checked the faq on the website too and had no luck.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it...
Shamon
Are you attempting to modify .fluxbox/init while Fluxbox is running? This won't work in some cases.
Have you tried setting the alpha through the menu? (fluxbox menu > configure > Menu Alpha) Right-click increases and left-click decreases. You may need to restart fluxbox for the changes to take effect, but I'm not sure on this.
I do remember that you have to use a program to set your root windows background that supports transparency. I'm currently using Esetroot which comes with Eterm.
Okay I fixed it!
For some reason fluxbox ver. 0.9.8 was'nt working with transparency.
Somehow after installing the fluxbox 9.6pre1 it started working.
So if anyone else on a slackware 9.1 distro is having problems with menu transparency, try switching flux versions.
cheers.
