File Copy Issue-Special Characters

I listen to quiet a bit of music from Europe, and their Artist names and song titles often have special characters in them ( like "e" with an accent ). Linux does not have problem with this, but when I go to copy the same files to a mounted Fat32 partitioned portable hard drive or Secure Digital card, I get the error message "could not write to <destination path> " for these files. All files with plain old English characters copy over fine.

Are then any quick workarounds to this issue? By quick, I mean not manually going through Gigabytes of files to identify and rename every single file with special characters.

Thank You,

~Fortezza

Short of a batch renaming program... you would have to manually redo each one. The best workaround might be using something other than FAT32 which would support those e with and accent egrave and so forth. Though I know FAT32 can support those specially, as European computers did run with fat32, and have keyboards with those symbols on there, so maybe you could format with an intl version of FAT32 rather than US?(Not sure exactly...but sounds possible).
