Convert special characters in text file

I have a textfile, that I exported from a database on mac os-X.

As it's always the problem with Mac, the german "umlaute" (ue, oe, ...) characters come out wrong. for example it says Abbhl instead of Abbühl.

Is there something I can do to correct this? Is there some tool that could do the conversion?

Kate supports multiple charsets. One that is used in your file should be supported. Try opening that file with Kate, with iso-8859-1 charset or some other.
