Eterm re-installationg problems

Red Hat 8.0
2.4.18-14
Winbook J4
P4 2GHZ
30G
256M

The scenario:

Wanted to try Eterm (its transparent background is better than Gnome-Term and takes less memory real estate to work), had troubles installing it, then got it to work. Was first installed via rpm with libAST 0.5 depends.

Cool.

Installed enlightenment from source (boy those depends are crazy to get to work), cool. Ran into problems with enlightenment (ran Gnome on top of it, worked for a while until I installed a theme, then all hell broke loose). Enlightenment display became all garbled. Oh well, remove and try installing it again. But after removing enlightenment and restarting X, I noticed that the transparent background on Eterm was black. Couldn't get it to work. (by the way, i'm a newb by 3 months). Removed all the files i could find for Eterm manually and tried reinstalling the rpm with this error message:

$ sudo rpm -i Eterm-0.9.2-1.i386.rpm
package Eterm-0.9.2-1 is already installed

ok . . .

$ sudo rpm -e Eterm-0.9.2-1.i386
error: package Eterm-0.9.2-1.i386 is not installed

hmmm . . . strange.

$ sudo rpm -ivh --replacepkgs Eterm-0.9.2-1.i386.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
1:Eterm ########################################### [100%]
tic: Can't open /Eterm-0.9.2/Eterm.ti

alright, maybe i shouldn't have removed the files by hand (didn't know about rpm -e until after). So there must be something left in the system telling rpm that this package is installed, and that it's not installed. So I tried just installing the package from source.

./configure . . . make . . . make install . . . no problem
but after a clean install (i guess) Eterm can't be found anywhere. Now I'm stuck.

How do I get Eterm completey off my system that I can reinstall it. Even if i don't reinstall, i would like it to be completely gone so i don't run into any trouble in the future. but i think i'll keep it.

Please help, frustrating problem.

thnx in advance
