Error in mnt

I reinstalled Mandrake 8.1 My windows files which are located on /mnt/windows all have a red 'no circle' (diagaonal slash through circle). when I try to access any of the files I get an error message:error in mnt. The program then shuts down...How do I fix this?

Please post the contents of your /etc/fstab file.

When I tried to go into /etc/fstab message says permission denied. I tried as root but received the same message.

Sounds like the permissions are all goofed up. Try cat /etc/fstab and see if it will output the files contents that way.

That suggestion worked. I read everything listed but there were no errors listed. It listed all of the main mounts including windows. Now I should mention that this is happening in the Gnome desktop but not the KDE desktop.
