mount -t //192.168.0.1/mnt /mnt/windows -o password='' generates error

When mounting a share on a windows xp box from linux with this command I get the following error messages

session request to 192.168.0.1 failed (Called name not present)
session request to 192 failed (Called name not present)

The share appears to mount normally never the less but these errors must have some meaning.

BTW I do have an entry in /etc/hosts for this host.

Any Ideas??

well, the -t flag seems to be set wrong - it should be
mount -t smbfs //netbios_name/mnt /mnt/windows -o password=****

(note -t smbfs)

I think you need to specify the NetBIOS name of the server, though it may work with IP address. when you say it mounts normally, can you see the files?

Yes I can see the files normally after this command. Oh, I did include the smbfs there in the command as well.

what happens when you replace the ip with a netbios name (i.e. the name specified in the "identity" tab of the windows machine's network setup?
