Angry cp - error reading /mnt/cdrom/mpegav/avseq01.dat input/output error

Hi all,
I am using Fedora Core 1 (Yarrow). I have done fresh installations over my machine 3 - 4 times this week. Sometimes, the cp command works fine with copying VCDs (*.dat) files from the CD. But, as I made a new installation again, it doesn't work. I am getting input/ouput error message. But, when I tried to copy the same files from the local area network, it works. i am not able to serve these files over the network too. Sometimes, this error is also common while copying via Samba too. Does anyone know a solution for that. Should I make a fresh installation again?

Try cleaning up the CD with toothpaste (no I'm not joking, toothpaste is corrosive and helps flating out the small imperfections of the CD).

Hello Agrouf
The CD and my CD drive are good. I copied that CD via a windows 98 PC over the network. But, there's one more problem. As I try to copy files from any computer over the network, the amount of KBs goes on decreasing. Then, the network gets jam for a few seconds. I can't even ping that machine within this time. After a few seconds, the network starts again.
