I have a very similar question and would be glad if you can help me.
I installed Wordpress on a server and now I try to download new themes.
As many of you know for this I need FTP(S) access to the server.
Hostname: ipAddr
FTP Username: root
FTP Password: ###########
Connection Type: FTPS (SSL) (I tried also just FTP)

Failed to connect to FTP Server myDomain/:21
Here is my vsftpd.conf file
