Large number of "logrotate" processes?

Currently 325 processes like this:

Code:
root 1472 586 586 ffffff801a849b20 0 S ?? 0:00.03 /usr/sbin/rotatelogs /var/log/apache2/access_log 2419200 -240
root 1473 586 586 ffffff801a849b20 0 S ?? 0:00.03 /usr/sbin/rotatelogs /var/log/apache2/access_log 2419200 -240
Why?

(These are the Apache piped-log rotator processes, not the cron daemon that rotates other logs.)

Code:
ls -hl /var/log/apache2/access_log
should shed some light. It's big, no?

I'm sorry, Habitual, but I entirely missed your point. (Swish!)

Yes, there's a lot of activity on this box all the time. But I still do not understand why there are over 300 of these processes running. I admit that I am not really familiar with this one at all.

Ya got me, I'm not sure why so many are running from this "Apache piped-log rotator processes" description.
Never heard of it.

Stop apache and examine? Busy = Money.
if not,

Code:
lsof -p 1472 | less
lsof -p 1473 | less
will show you details of those 2 Process Identifiers.
/var/log/apache2/access_log could be "in use" by something besides apache2...
Code:
lsof +D /var/log/apache2/
will show what's using what where, if anything.

Hope that helps.
