unable to configure eth0


hey

I m very new to linux environment...
Got to do a project in linux
I formatted my Pc
dual boot
XP and linux red hat 8.0
i tried making the network connections
My lan card is sis900

i gave the Ip address(Using Broadband)
and subnetmask the gateway and all
but when i activate the connection
it gives a warning " CANNOT ACTIVATE ETH0"
can anyone help me out

Is there any real reason for using RH8? That distro is incredibly old and unsupported and if you have a newer PC it is very unlikely to be able to configure your hardware. I would say go with Centos or Fedora.

actually i was asked to load red hat 9.0 by a prof but then cudnt get a cd and thot that 8.0 wud suffice but then i ll try the above version of linux and chk out
