Unhappy Ubuntu not picking up wireless card. Intel Wireless AC9260

Hi.

I recently built a new computer and I've been trying to install Linux today. I started out with elementaryOS and everything installed fine. However my WiFi card isn't being picked up. Even with the correct drivers in firmware and kernel version. I don't know if I'm missing something massive because I am new...

I tried formatting the elementaryOS and installing plain Ubuntu LTS from their site a couple of hours ago and still no WiFi showing up. The bluetooth is working so it must be picking up something. The only command I've used that has managed to pick up the name of my card is this:

lee@lee-MS-7B85:~$ dmesg | grep iwl

Baring in mind I cannot connect to the internet through Linux, wired connection is not possible either. I can only download to my PC through Windows, stick whatever files on my USB and manually install. The WiFi card is definitely connected properly as it is onboard wifi. Any suggestions would help and be greatly appreciated, I've been googling and looking through forum posts for hours, trying everything.

Hi: & Welcome to LQ.

I'm not the best with wifi and I don't pretend to be. In fact I just had an issue with getting the wireless to work on my fresh installation I just performed an hour ago.

If I'm not mistaken you need the firmware here on this page:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us...etworking.html

It's the:
Code:
iwlwifi-9260-th-bo-if-bo-34.618819.0.tgz
Once you have installed the firmware try rebooting and you should be able to see your network in your network manager.

Which distro do you have installed? Elementary OS or Ubuntu?

In this thread the member doesn't have the exact card that you have but the instructions I hope are of some use for you.

Had exact same issue with my laptops that have the 9260, and for me it was indeed needing the firmware as Ztcoracat suggests.
