Try using this command to install the Gnome Desktop.

Code:
yum -y groups install "GNOME Desktop"
Here's the instructions:

what does .xinitrc look like? is it trying to start anything, do you even have one?

copy of mine,
Code:
#!/bin/sh
#
# ~/.xinitrc
#
# Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)

if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
  for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
  done
  unset f
fi

# exec gnome-session
# exec startkde
# exec startxfce4
# ...or the Window Manager of your choice

Do you have the file xinitrc file that our Guru BW-userx has?

And is Gnome actually installed?
Run this to see if it's in the list-

Code:
yum list installed

I created a file in "/root/.xinitrc" and tried to run startx but it failed.

I installed a GNOME Desktop in the virtual machine(Can enter the desktop environment). There is no .xinitrc file in it.

I can't post a complete list of installations.

"The text that you have entered is too long (192217 characters). Please shorten it to 30000 characters long."

yum installed.txt

Look through the output of yum list installed:-
Are you sure Gnome Desktop is installed?

Startx creates this file:
xauth: file /root/.serverauth.7983 does not exist

So this error is with a virtual machine and not the host?

what can i do ?
Based on the 'Section "Device"' above, it seems you wish to use the Intel gfx, but your language makes that unclear. Also, I'm a little lost here, because I haven't touched CentOS in years, haven't tried Gnome in two decades, have never used pass-through, and can't remember whether I ever had success trying to use onboard Intel gfx while any add-on gfxcard was installed. "Startx" failure is what lured me here. Nevertheless, I do have suggestions, depending on what you actually want, and hardware you actually have.

I'd be surprised if this has anything to do with Yum or Gnome or any of its dependencies, but more likely with mixing a generated xorg.conf with Intel gfx, if not broken pass-through. IME, inappropriate xorg.conf settings are a good way to generate a server lost or xinit auth failure. What else is in it besides the 5 line device section? IOW, please post the whole file.

ISTR wrong permissions on /usr/bin/Xorg used to be able to cause server lost, if not still. What are yours?

Please share your CPU & gfx hardware. "Intel" and "NVidia" don't really tell us anything.
Code:
inxi -GxxCM
would be ideal, if X was running. It still might be enough. Absent exact model names, PCI IDs are my interest here, which you could cull from hwinfo or lspci.

With server 1.20.1 and nothing in a PCIeX16 slot, automagic should make any non-ancient Intel gfx over six months old just work, no xorg.conf needed. If some special admin (your own manually created) config is actually needed for pass-through, I'd put it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/, only using /etc/X11/xorg.conf for a proprietary driver.

Have you tried using the (much) newer (default) "modesetting" driver? It's provided by servers 1.17.0 and up, not a separate driver package, unless CentOS is very different from Fedora or Debian or any other distro I've used post-1.16.x, none of which used a kernel as old as 3.10. If the separate Intel DDX driver, which has been in maintenance mode since its last official release 4 years ago, is installed, the default driver that Intel's paid gfx driver writers put most of their effort into is overrided. I don't let that happen here. Maybe it's what you or pass-through want?

don't be root when starting X!
also GNOME is most likely configured to be started from a displaymanager (lightdm?) and not like this.

I ran this command to install GNOME Desktop. The previous reply comes with a file link to the installation list.

yum groupinstall "X window system" "GNOME Desktop"

IME, inappropriate xorg.conf settings are a good way to generate a server lost or xinit auth failure.

This error is the host.

I created a virtual machine to compare files when I was looking for a problem.

I tried to modify xorg.conf according to this document.
Make Xorg ignore both nouveau and nVIDIA?

ISTR wrong permissions on /usr/bin/Xorg used to be able to cause server lost, if not still. What are yours?
I don't understand what ISTR is?

With server 1.20.1 and nothing in a PCIeX16 slot, automagic should make any non-ancient Intel gfx over six months old just work, no xorg.conf needed. If some special admin (your own manually created) config is actually needed for pass-through, I'd put it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/, only using /etc/X11/xorg.conf for a proprietary driver.
I have tried to unplug the graphics card's power cord because it is inconvenient to remove the graphics card.
After starting the server, I use lspci to make sure the graphics card is not listed.
Running startx failed.
If I have to unplug my graphics card.
I put it to the last try.

6.
Finally I tried to use the "modesetting" driver and modified xorg.conf.
Code:
# /etc/X11/nvidia-xorg.conf provided by http://elrepo.org

Section "Module"
    Load "modesetting"
EndSection

Section "Device"

    Driver "modesetting"

There is still a "xinit: connection to X server lost" error.
I need to use a kernel of 4.9 or higher to enable TCP BBR functionality.
Thanks mrmazda for replying
I think it may be a problem with the configuration file, but I didn't find out exactly where there is a problem.
