Quick Question: KDE or GNOME?

Hello,

i am a newbie/ home user who is interested in giving Linux a shot. i have decided to try Mandriva as its user friendly. but now i am thinking which one; KDE or GNOME? which one? whats the difference in a nut shell cz i dont want to go into further tech related details as i wl only use internet, watch movies and listen to music on it. thats pretty much it!

Thanks

There is no answer...

You really have to decide for yourself, each has its advantages and disadvantages. If you have chosen to use Mandriva, try each of the two desktops with a live-cd until you find that you like one more. Also, remember that there is more than KDE and Gnome for Mandriva.

I'll give a definitive answer to your question if you will tell me which is the best color of the spectrum. I like red. Red must be best.

You can install both, and pick which one you want to use when you log in. Use them both; use neither, and install Enlightenment, XVWM, or one of many other window managers.

And spell out your words...that text-speak garbage is against LQ rules.

Zimmi... Whats your Favorite car? Mines a Supra... lol I would get a live disc, and install with Gnome and play with it for a week or 2, and then I would reinstall "Gives you practice" and then choose KDE. My personal choice is Gnome. I really dont like the Menu system on KDE, I prefer the *ACK* I cannot believe I am saying this, but the "classic windows menu" its much easier with navigation. But hey its all about personal choice, and everyone will have their own opinion. But use what ever you feel comfortable in. Also EXPLORE, play around with linux, install software from YUM or APT, and just play =) its the best way to get comfortable.
