Quick GNOME/KDE question

I am running multiple VNC servers on my RH8.0 box. Currently I only have GNOME installed, not KDE. The problem I am having is that I can't have GNOME running both locally and on the VNC server for each user. In other words, my wife can have GNOME running on VNC, and I can have it running locally. However, I cannot have a VNC server on my username using GNOME *and* be logged in using GNOME locally on the machine.

My question is this - Do you think that if I were to install KDE, I could run that locally without issues and then run GNOME on VNC?
