Likely reinstalling grub will do it. I assume you mean the choice on the Grub boot menu.
Boot mepis and reinstall grub - Google for how for your version. It's different if you have grub1 or grub2. Or boot your Ubuntu install CD and update grub from there. It "should" pick up both Linux installs automatically.

I did a sudo update-grub and got the following msg:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo update-grub
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?).
Am I to do something before doing sudo update-grub?
NB: I had to resize my existing ubuntu /home partition to free up space for the Mepis install.
Thanks,

Reason: additional info
He meant "can you boot to Mepis (ie. from the grub menu)?"
I could only boot into Mepis.
I gave up after reading a few posts on how to recover/re-install grub.
I deleted all partitions with Parted Magic and installed Mint-Debian to see what it is like. I have a copy of my Ubuntu Netbook install created by remastersys if I choose to re-install. Also, all my data is living in Dropbox.
I will mark this thread as 'solved' because I can't code it as 'too complicated to solve at this point in my Linux career'.
