Lost the ability to click on Anything

A couple hours ago I noticed that I was having a problem clicking on things. I replaced my already new batteries -no help. I run Seti@home and had recently changed the setting to use at most 3 cpus so thinking that was the problem, I changed that back on the seti set, rebooted my machine and, as soon as it came up (I have just a few seconds of click time here) I clicked on update on Boinc to get the new settings to take effect. But not change.

I rebooted again and quickly brought up syslog and then only had the ability to scroll up and down. I didnt see anything unusual like ERROR but then again, not sure what Im looking for either.

I found out after the fact its not just the mouse. The keyboard is also having issues. I cant access any menus either.

I tried a different keyboard and mouse with the same results

Keyboard and mouse are both usb.
Im running 9.04

I have six usb ports so I started moving my mouse and keyboard around to the other ones. None of the ports in the back seem to allow me to click on anything but I can move the mouse and scroll. And the keyboard can sometimes activate a item (clicking enter).

I just discovered that the front usb ports though are working for both my keyboard and mouse and I can click on things and work again. But how do I trouble shoot the rear ones?

On some MOBO the connection to the usb ports in the rear and to the front
are made by different wires.
So it is possible that the rear are working correctly while the front are not.
My suggestion is see if the wires are still in place on the MOBO.

They are still in place.
I can move the mouse around on the screen - just cant click on anything.
The keyboard has power and I can tab though items but cant activate them.
