How can I play DVD from drive on elemntary OS Freya?

I have tried many video players such as VLC, GNOME Mplayer, Audacious, SMplayer which I installed via Software Manager to play DVD directly from drive but none of them can play it. Just nothing happens when I pressed Play button. Has anyone had the same problem ?

Sorry, you'll have to use the elementary OS' package management system.
I don't know that OS.

Elementary is another Ubuntu derivative so check the site below. It depends on what release you have.

Thank you Yancek.

I followed the link you gave me and the section "ubuntu 12.04 upto 15.04 (i386, amd64)" did the trick. Did't even need to reboot.

Now I can play DVD nicely.

Many thanks to Habitual too. The instruction you gave me did no work straight away but that was a start.

Thank you both for your help.
