Hi Terry...

Welcome to the forum

We're going to need some information from you to try and help you solve your issue.

What is the brand and model name (and number) of your computer? Is this your internet provider? What device are you using to connect to your provider? Please open a terminal and post the results of this command...

Code:
lspci -nnk | grep -i net -A2
If this is a USB device, then use this command...

Code:
lsusb
Thanks!

help needed

Hi again , I had the computer made for me some years ago, all I can remember is that its a quad core CPU, Asus mother board, three Hitachi hard drives each around 2/3 GB.
Yes that's my internet provider. I cant remember what devices I use to connect to them, except that its cable wired to a router.

hope this helps

Hi...

It's a start but I still the need the readouts I requested in my last post. Are you connecting using an ethernet cord or a USB cord? If by ethernet, please open a terminal and post the output of...

Code:
lspci -nnk | grep -i net -A2
If USB...

Code:
lsusb
To access the terminal, go to "Start" ---> "All Applications" ---> "Accessories" ---> "Terminal"

If you find this entire process too difficult, perhaps you can find someone who can help you or take your computer to a repair shop (that can work with Linux) to get you set up. Or, you can use the support options offered by your provider. However, they may not support Linux over the phone.

Regards...

Depending on setup and internet hardware / methods.

$ sudo dhclient eth0

Or the network-manager icon in the desktop tray stuff. Or using nmtui for a console interface for the same. Various harder ways depending on hardware support and internet setup.
