Help create a softlink

I'm an extremely new user to linux and as such have almost no knowledge of the system apart from the basic commands.

I have downloaded and installed the colorgcc files and copied the configure to my home and the perl script to /bin and now the next step ivolves in creating a solftlink to the compiler commands.

Can someone please show me how to do this I would appreciate it a lot.

Quick example:
[fugu ~]$ ln -s /etc/motd my_link
[fugu ~]$ ls -l my_link
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mrbig mrbig 9 Mar 20 22:38 my_link -> /etc/motd
