Question Cannot create Linux softlink on smbfs

Hi,

I am developing code for a Linux target that must live on an NTFS SnapSrv under SourceSafe. Through SourceSafe on my Windows machine, I created a working directory on the SnapSrv. I NFS mounted that working directory on my Linux development machine via Samba - so now, from my Linux development machine, I have access to source files and derived objects in the remote SourceSafe working directory.

HOWEVER, my build fails because the Makefiles cannot create softlinks to object files that live in the smbfs (i.e. the NFS mounted NTFS SnapSrv). I am leery of changing the Makefiles to get rid of the use of softlinks because they are for Xerces product code and I do not understand all the dependencies. Another option is to write a build script that manually copies the source files from the smbfs to a local dir, then executes the Makefile and copies the derived objects back to the smbfs. However, I don't like this solution because I then need to hard code all the derived objects in the script - this should all be handled by version control. And finally, I cannot change the crazy ass platforms and development environment.

Is there any way to create Linux softlinks on an smbfs?

Thanks,
neqboan
