desktop icon question
im runnin madrake 9.1 w/ kde. i got 9 share mounted in fstab from my 2 xp boxes. but on my linux box it makes a link on my desktop to all 9 of these. how can i get rid of these. they are cluttering up my stuff.
the only way i can see is rightclick-unmount. but i dont want the share unmounted. just not on my desktop

Did you ever get this one fixed? I'd assume by either:
hiding the icons;
Stopping things from accessing your Desktop directory;
OR by
Creating a directory on the desktop for these shares, then dragging and dropping them in there;
That the problem would subdue.

Right-click the desktop, select 'Configure Desktop'. Click the 'Behaviour' icon, then remove the checkmark from 'Display devices on desktop', click OK.

Good technique MasterC - it certainly worked this time.
This is a case where the CLUE* brigade don't have an easy answer, but the desktop designers made it so simple to change it via the GUI.
Translation for newbies: Command Line User Experience; generally used to urge newbies to leave their GUI, drop to the command line, and fix their problem there.
