I believe something like the following under the shares section of /etc/samba/smb.conf should do it.
[dvdrom]
comment = dvdrom
path = /mnt/dvdrom
Note, the drive will have to be mounted, and any changes made to the smb.conf will not take effect until the daemons are restarted. Most likely the windows machine will need a reboot to pick up the share.

ok thanks for ur prompt reply, i added the text to smb.conf and the windows box
picks up the share, but wen i try to access it, i cant. it comes up as not accessible

Yes I'm guessing permissions. Is the drive mounted with a disk? If so what does /etc/fstab look like, or was it mounted manually? In any event you may need to unmount it and remount it.
