Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

FC4 shows dvd-rw as cd-rom and cd-rom as cd-rw

I am using Fedora Core 4. I have dvd-rw and cd-rom. But FC4 shows dvd-rw as cd-rom and cd-rom as cd-rw. In hardware browser, both are detected properly, dvd drive as 'hdc' and cd drive as 'hdd'. So I changed cd-rw to 'hdc' (which is my dvd drive) and cd-rom to 'hdd' (which is my cd drive) in /etc/fstab. But when I reboot the system /etc/fstab shows 'hdc' as cd-rom and 'hdd' as cd-rw.
Can somebody tell me what the problem is?

You could edit your fstab to show the correct names. You would also have to change the name of the folders under /mnt. There's also a good chance you have links in /dev that point to the actual devices. For example /dev/cdrom=>/dev/hdd. Just a couple things to came to mind. I just woke up, so I may be rambling...
