Question Newbie help RE VNC viewer/server

i have been searching the forums trying to find the answer to my question but i cant find the right answer.

My problem is that i am trying to connect my PC (XP Pro) to a linux machine (RH9) via vnc so as to be able to connect to my linux box and control it remotely so there would be no need for a second set of monitor keyboard mouse. ( obviously is what ure thinking i bet)

linux is installed and running and can connect to the internet through though my router and ethernet hub combo. 1 line from the router comes into my room into a netgear ethernet hub which serves my XP and linux machines.

however when i try to connect XP to the linux machine using the name that comes up "New X desktop is linux:1" putting the linux:1 in i get " failed to get server adress did u type the host name correctly" which im sure i have monitor number and all.

which leads me to believe that the linux machine is not allowing input from other machines but being a newbie i dont know what to do.

help me please

ahha it worked thanks mate. would this require me leaving the linux machine on all the time or is it possible to set it up so that when the linux machine starts it would start the vnc server.

Newbie help RE VNC viewer/server

Hi there,

I'm doing exactly the same practically...but I have win98 vnc version 4 client & installed VNC ver 4 on RedHat 9. I can get SSH working. Being new to RH & Linux. I'd like to get the vnc viewer working fromt the win98 client as the RH box will be server with no monitor, but I'm getting 'connection refused(10061)' when trying to connect. I have changed the RH hostname to 192.168.0.9 to no avail. I too would also like to have the VNC Service working on boot up when it works. Any ideas?

Thanks
Newbie the 2nd
